Another rare oarfish has been discovered in Southern California, following last weekend’s discovery of the serpent-like creature in the waters off Catalina Island, according to a local NBC affiliate.

The mysterious marine species, which can grow to longer than 50 feet, was found along the coast of San Diego County. It washed ashore Friday, and NOAA took it away after cutting the 14-foot fish into pieces.

The oarfish is rarely spotted because it can dive to 3,000 feet.
