This 3D image of the near side of the moon was taken by the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, using what's known as an anaglyph technique, which captures multiple images with two different color filters and overlays them. This not only helps planners select eventual lunar landing sites, it also helps them analyze lunar geology.
