Hurricane Isaac may be making a mess of the Gulf Coast and a hash of the carefully scripted schedule of the Republican National Convention in Tampa, but from space it has its own turbulent beauty. This image was captured early on Aug 29, 2012, by the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite on the Suomi-NPP satellite, which has been in a polar—or north to south—orbit since its launch in 2011.
