In addition to the small-eared shrew, the Peruvian jungle yielded another new species, this time with a more colorful name—the Enigmatic Porcupine. Sadly, the moniker it not exactly accurate, since there’s a certain specificity to the appearance of the creature. It’s unusually large for a porcupine, unusually dark in color and has unusually long quills too. Indeed, for the locals at least, there wasn’t much to discover about the animal at all, since its conspicuous look always made it hard to miss. But the outsiders were dazzled, so the porcupine got a new name and a new notoriety.
